Funny thing nr 1

Today I'm staying home because I have to study for this exam I have at 4. (This is the official version of the story, so we'll just go with that, and not start to whine about how there's nothing to learn, the teacher is a weirdo, bla bla bla.. if ya know me and my wonderful school, ya know all that already).

So I get some time to spend with my beautiful Sony Vaio that's been ignored for ages because of my never being home and all... although God knows it doesn't deserve to be ignored because it's so nice and puffy and shiny and .... dusty.... (note to self, serious cleaning needed in this house...)

Maybe I should tell you the story about buying this laptop. We went to Germany on holidays and decided to buy a computer, too, because the German keyboard was supposed to help me write my Diplomarbeit. Of course, my extra-rational shopping buddy (aka ze love of my life, Cosmin) had spent ages researching the issue on the internet, trying to decide which kind of computer would best suit me and my computer needs -- and not for a moment had he given in to the computer-science-student urge to choose a super-computer with super-features that I don't understand and would never ever use :P wink wink.

Anywhooo, there we are in Saturn, a huge technology shop in Tübingen, in the computer aisle, and Cosmin can't find too many of the laptops he'd chosen, but he's still very profesionally trying to convince me of the advantages of some Toshiba or HP or I don't remember what... when I see this little baby and fall in love. So Cos was all like... and thiiiis one has sooo many gigabites of memory and a huge RAM and ..... and I was like.... uh-huh, but this one IS PRETTY! And he's like Yeah, but you can't just buy that without knowing what it has in it.... So I say well go ahead and look at the specifications and then we'll know, won't we? He looks and of course everything is A-ok, except this is so not his way of buying stuff, especially not computers. Don't get me wrong, he's my little expert and I totally respect his cute, experty way of choosing things, but this Vaio was just SO PRETTY... that we ended up buying it anyway... and nowadays Cos is one of the biggest Vaio fans in Romania. I won't say I (or should I say my instinct) was right. God forbid, I would't want to rub it in anyone's face :P

So back to this morning. I turn on my laptop and everything is all right up to the point where the mouse stops working. (If you know me a bit you know that I'm a mouse person, you wouldn't catch me dead using the stupid touchpad, even less so since the click-button has stopped being as sensitive as it should be...) And this is the second mouse that's done that in a couple of days. I tried all my USB-ports -- no change. Nada.

I feel like crying. My awesome Vaio is only 2 years old. It's practically brand new, or so I'd like to think, and now it's USB-less. So I IM Cos to tell him the bad news, all whiney and stuff because I'm losing my dearest laptop and he says:

"There there, we'll fix it. It's probably not even the USB ports, it might be the motherboard."

Oh yes. Yeees. I feel so much better. And here I thought the USB ports were gone, wondering, how the hell am I gonna transfer songs to my phone, or use the mouse, or the webcam or stuff... but if you say it's the motherboard, so my whole computer might be going beserk any moment now, then it's ok. Just.... marvy.

I hope I won't have to write a Vaio obituary sometime soon...in the meanwhile... here's to you, mister cute and puffy laptop!
